Here's what we're working on in 2008:
- The Sara Blakely Foundation will be providing scholarships for girls to attend The CIDA City Campus. Located in Johannesburg, South Africa, CIDA provides a high-quality education at the lowest-cost university in the world. The miracle is that CIDA works exclusively with students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds and provides them with business and entrepreneurial education. After graduating from CIDA, each student is required to.
- Teach 30 young men and women, who in turn will together teach 1000 young people in their high school;
- Support and nurture 5 youngsters orphaned by AIDS;
- Sponsor another student to attend CIDA within 5 years of being employed.
- The Sara Blakely Foundation will also support The Women on the Move Program.
To enhance the CIDA experience, the Women on the Move program seeks to change women's lives through education of women and men that focuses on awareness education in four areas: self, social, entrepreneurial & financial, and environmental. The goal of the program is to:
- Stimulate the development of a motivated and assertive generation of young women and men who are able to participate fully and equally in social and economic life
- Impact home villages by having students mentor at least 30 students in their home village for four years
- Contribute directly to alleviating the impact of HIV-AIDS through social transformation and poverty alleviation
